gringa

Variant of gringo

Spanish A foreigner; especially used disparagingly against North Americans and North Europeans in Latin America. (Likely from the Spanish word 'griego', meaning Greek. The use of the term Greek for something foreign or unintelligible is also seen in the similar expression 'it's Greek to me'.) The term lends itself to derogatory or paternalistic connotations, but in most of the contexts it may not be meant pejoratively.
