Originally used by southern ethnic Ugandans (Baganda, Basoga, etc) to describe soldiers who were considered rough and believed to be mostly from the north in the period 1960-1990s. The term has generally been extended to all luo and nilotic people (most of whom come from the north and east of Uganda) and is used in an abusive context
